Just a quick post here, as it’s fast becoming traditional for me to at least mention every new Assassin’s Creed game. Last week, Ubisoft announced the latest title in the series – Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
Or, as Lewie Procter would probably call it, AssBlag.
Today, the hype machine whirred into second gear, with the release of the first trailer. More thoughts after the break, along with the trailer itself.
Stepping away from the series usual chronology, Black Flag steps back a generation, following instead the life of Edward Kenway, father of Haytham and grandfather of Connor. Edward is both an Assassin, and a pirate, which should hopefully mean that we’ll see a return to the ship-based combat which was one of the best new features in the sadly rather bloated AC3.
I think it’s trailer time, don’t you?
I’m slightly worried about the quick turnaround here – Assassin’s Creed is a great series, and it’d be a shame to see it devolve into a yearly COD-style rehash, where it previously broke so much ground. But then, as always, the atmosphere looks stellar. It’ll be nice to play a badass assassin again, someone with a bit more character than Connor had.
I’ve actually got quite a lot more to say about AC3, so I think I’ll save that for another, more considered post sometime in the future. For now, I’ll just set my hype-o-meter at ‘cautiously hopeful’ and see how things turn out.
